FY27 Budget Update
Parks Needs Your Help
We know you love parks as much as we do. That is why we need your voice to advocate for the parks budget!
The Parks Department submitted a fiscally responsible, same services budget for FY27, asking for only enough to cover existing obligations, programs, and service levels.
The County Executive cut the request by over $3 million – barely enough to cover compensation and insufficient to cover existing operational expenses. Unless the Council restores some funding, Parks will have to make cuts in services and operations.
What does this budget cut mean for Parks?
- Decreased maintenance
- Fewer bathrooms in parks
- Reduced irrigation on fields
- An overall decline in the quality of our parks and trails
- Without adequate funding, new park amenities will compete for maintenance with existing parks.
- The Parks Department may enter a hiring freeze and will be unable to fill vacant positions for staff needed to build and maintain safe trails and parks.
The Parks Department is counting on you to let the County Council know that their budget needs to be restored.
Email your councilmembers today and demand full funding for the Parks Department.
