Charitable Bequests

When you choose to designate MPF as a beneficiary in your will or trust, you ensure that we can continue our mission to protect, preserve and enhance the park system.

Your bequest may be designated for a specific purpose such as camp scholarships, park enhancements or capital campaigns. Alternatively, you may designate your gift as unrestricted to support the greatest needs of Montgomery Parks today and in the future.

Your charitable gift to the MPF is and enduring and meaningful way to show the value Montgomery Parks has had in your life. It is a truly special gift that will significantly change the lives and experiences of people in your community.

By taking this step, you will receive acknowledgment for your generous commitment through membership in the Oak Club Legacy Society.

Retirement Plans and IRAs

Retirement Plans and IRAs

The assets you have amassed in a tax-deffered retirement account such as an IRA or 401(k) can fund a tax-savvy gift to the MPF after your lifetime.

When you choose these assets for your deferred charitable gift, you can pass more tax-favored assets to heirs, which will significantly benefit both your heirs and MPF.

1. Designate Montgomery Parks Foundation as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), SEP or other qualified retirement plan.
2. Sign a form provided by the firm that administers your retirement plan.
3. Contact MPF to notify us of your gift.

Qualified Gift Through Your IRA

You can gift money directly from your IRA to MPF to fulfill your required minimum distribution for the year. 

• You must be age 70 1/2 years old
• Transfers must be made directly from the IRA to the MPF. If you have retirement assets in a 401(k), 403(b), etc., you must first roll those funds into an IRA.
• The amount of the qualified charitable distribution cannot exceed $100,000.

Life Insurance Gifts

Donating a life insurance policy is a wonderful option for you to reach your charitable objectives with the MPF. You may contribute an existing life insurance policy (fully paid, partially paid or a new policy), naming MPF as owner and beneficiary of the policy.  This option offers you added flexibility if circumstances change in your life.

Life Income Gifts

A life income gift provides you with a dependable income during retirement years and allows MPF to further our mission. This is made possible through charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts.

When you decide to make a life income gift to MPF, we agree to pay you (or someone you name) a fixed or variable dollar amount each year for a lifetime. The remaining balance is then used to support the critical work we do in the community.

Donor-Advised Funds

Streamline your philanthropic giving goals through a donor-advised fund (DAF), an investment account used for charitable giving that provides an immediate tax deduction upon contributing to the fund. A DAF allows you the flexibility to determine the frequency and amount of money you would like to grant throughout the year to non-profits that you care about, like the MPF.

Contributions are administered by a third party, typically a financial institution or community foundation, who handle the administrative work, including issuing grants on the donor’s behalf.

Donors can recommend grants immediately or over the course of many years, and many even make plans to use their DAF to continue their giving legacy beyond their lifetime.
